I was recently feeling a little blue about the lack of progress of scientists finding a cure for Alzheimer’s. I was further disheartened when I heard that a person in his early 20s has been diagnosed with mid- to late-stage Alzheimer’s disease in Southern Alberta. What the heck is going on that so many people are getting it? And now we are starting to hear about people in their 20s and 30s being diagnosed.
I’ve been debating whether or not I would want to be tested to see if I do have the familial gene. Many people I’ve talked to say they wouldn’t want to know until it happened. I’m leaning towards wanting to know. The National Institute on Aging (NIH) has an interesting fact sheet about genetics and Alzheimer’s disease.
A big thank you goes to my friend who sent me this Science Alert article because it cheered me up. It gave me hope that within my lifetime there may be a cure for this disease.
