I recently discussed how my mom can remember tunes better than I can. A few days ago we were discussing a picture on her wall which triggered a song memory for her so she belted out an old tune. Mom couldn’t remember the name of the song nor the original singer, but that didn’t matter, she had most of the lyrics. I find these moments with mom so enjoyable because she’s happy and it shows in the strength of her voice.
If you have a loved one who enjoys singing, encourage the person to do it. You might even want to start a singing group for people with dementia after reading this interesting article: “Alzheimer’s Patients’ Brains Boosted by Belting out Sound of Music“
