Day 75: Saturday, August 24

We woke up at 6 a.m. in hopes of beating the wind; instead, we got cold rain. In Clarenville we stopped at Tim Horton’s to get some hot coffee. We met Elliott. He travelled with a friend a couple of years ago by bicycle from St. John’s to Toronto. He wants to travel across all of Canada in the next couple of years. It’s great to meet other bicyclists who understand long journeys like this. (Keep in touch Elliott!)

Outside of the coffee shop, this random guy came up to me to chat about our trip. He was a close talker. Every time I moved backwards he moved with me until I was finally pinned between my bike and the window. BB was having a good laugh watching this from inside. It was to the point where the guy was leaning on me until I shoved past him to get some space!

We stopped for the day around Whitbourn. We found a place to rogue camp hidden in the trees. We heard there was some sort of festival going on in Whitbourn; a guy suggested we camp in the schoolyard, but we didn’t want to be bothered by people. We want to get up early for our final trek into St. John’s tomorrow. We’re almost there!

We travelled 120 km today.

  1. Gah! Close talkers are horrible. As are close standers in bank lineups and such …
