Bicycling Across Canada

Day 62: Saturday, August 10

Social norms have been lacking for the three of us. After being on the road for so long, we forget just how dirty and sweaty we are when we enter establishments. I walked by one store clerk and she said, "ick" while waving her hand in front of her face. TR's favourite breaker of the...

Day 61: Friday, August 9

We took the morning off so we could relax and I could catch up on my blogging. It's so hard to keep up with it! I later regretted taking so long because in the afternoon it rained hard, which made for a cold ride. The rain began when we were inside Anna's Restaurant, a quaint...

Day 60: Thursday, August 8

Yesterday TR tipped his bike and today, BB tipped over on her bike. I didn't fall, which was a nice change! Travelling outside Moncton was not pleasant due to poor shoulders. It eventually improved but bad roads make for a slow ride. We eventually moved on to a scenic road which took us by the water....

Day 59: Wednesday, August 7

We found a little gas station diner in Jemsburg to get breakfast. I had a feast for $5! The diner had great home-cooked meals and fresh bread. TR was so hungry he ate bacon...he's allergic to pork. Within the hour he was regretting that as he puked on the side of the road! The day...

Day 58: Thursday, August 6, 2013

Our alarm clock this morning was a guy sneezing loudly...and a lot of sneezes. Every time he sneezed, I envisioned a cartoon of an old person with teeth that flew in and out of his mouth! We started the day with sunshine! The downside is I'm carrying extra weight in my bags. All the zippers have...

Day 57: Monday, August 5

Another rainy day in New Brunswick! My feet and hands look like shrivelled prunes. I'm fairly sure I'm going to get trench foot if this continues! In the early days of this bike trip, my thumbs and index fingers were numb constantly. I had to retrain them to work properly. BB had some good laughter at...

Day 56: Sunday, August 4

We got off to a late start from Edmundston. We were trying to stay ahead of a rain storm all day; eventually it caught up with us. At least it was warm! Jocelyn (Josh) from Gatineau, the gentleman we met biking in BC, emailed us. He had taken a week off at home and is now...

Day 55: Saturday, August 3

Camping Cabano was a nice campsite with everything we needed. The cost was reasonable as well ($10 each). They had a store, restaurant, and live music from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. We had to clean our bikes, which took at least an hour. The sand from the path got into all areas of our bikes...

Day 54: Friday, August 2

We woke up with rain and it only got worse as the day progressed. It poured. Everything in our bags got soaked. Because the trail is sand and rocks, the rain makes it feel like we are riding through quicksand. We could only do about 15 kilometres an hour. It was a long day with...

Day 53: Thursday, August 1

I keep talking about how BB has crashed while riding so I guess I better fess up by mentioning that I constantly wipe out. It's a daily occurrence for me to drop my bike, and most days I do fall off my bike. At least BB is in motion when she crashes. When I fall,...
